The CECAFA Club Cup is a football club tournament organized by CECAFA (Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations). It is contested by clubs from East and Central Africa.
The tournament began in 1967, but remained suspended until 1974, when Simba FC became the first official champions of the tournament. Since 2002 the Club Cup is known as the Kagame Cup, from when Rwanda President Paul Kagame began sponsoring the competition.
Wellington Ochieng captained Kenya Premier League Champions Gor Mahia at this year’s CECAFA Club Cup. In their opening match, the Kenyan champions were aided by a wonder goal from right back Wellington Ochieng, en-route to a 2-1 win over colorful Congolese club AS Maniema.
Gor Mahia’s wait to end their 34-year CECAFA Club Cup title drought continues after the record holding champions were stunned 2-1 by [club] defeat in the quarterfinal match at Kigali Stadium, in Rwanda.
SoccerExpo is proud of our own Wellington Ochieng for his personal achievements at the tournament, and for having captained his team.
Cheers Wellington!!
